Abstract

1396697 Cartons JOHN WADDINGTON Ltd 4 Aug 1972 [3 June 1971] 18704/71 Heading B8P A tear back panel 30 is initially secured to the remainder of the carton by attachment strips 22, 24 adhered to the outside of the panel 30 and is separable from the carton along perforated lines 26, 28. The carton is erected from the blank of Fig. 1, by folding over panels 30, 32, 34 along tear line 36, glueing strips 22, 24 to the longitudinal edges of the panel 30 to form a flattened tubular sleeve, rupturing the tear line 36, erecting the flattened sleeve, and folding and glueing the end flaps. The carton is opened by removing a tear strip 32A in the end panel 32 and tearing along lines 26, 28. The tear back panel 30 may be folded medially and the panel 32 tucked behind the carton contents for display purposes. An identical blank, turned through 180 degrees, fits co-operatively with the blank shown in Fig. 1, for economical use of the material. In modifications, the tear back panel 30 may be hinged to the panel 18 or may be initially separate from the remainder of the carton; the panel 32 may be replaced by tabs which co-operate with slits in the panel 16. The tear lines 26, 28 may be slits in the material or deep grooves on each side thereof and need not extend the full length of the carton. The carton may be of carton board or plastics, the appropriate panels in the latter event being welded together.
