Abstract

1396672 Sound-deadening casings CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 28 Sept 1973 [2 Oct 1972] 45563/73 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A sound-deadening cover comprises a cover having a peripheral flange, an elastomeric noise isolating pad bonded to an outer surface of the cover and having transverse end portions terminating adjacent respective transverse sides of the cover and a plate bonded to an outer surface of the pad. A die cast aluminium rocker box cover of an I.C. engine has a flange 15 containing a gasket 19 and is secured by bolts 20. To the upper surfaces 13 is bonded a nitrile rubber pad 22 and a steel plate 23 is bonded to the pad. The walls 13 and pad 22 are # in. thick and the plate 23 is 1/16 in. thick. Alternatively the wall 13 is twice as thick as the pad and the pad is twice as thick as the plate. In a modification the pad is replaced by a continuous ring positioned adjacent the periphery of the plate 23.
