1396588 Nozzles; agitating particulate material EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 23 June 1972 29513/72 Headings B1C and B2F A nozzle for distributing fluid from a higher pressure zone into a lower pressure zone at a relatively low velocity, e.g. for use in fluidized beds, comprises a first wall member 11 having a plurality of fluid-metering orifices 15 therethrough, a second wall member 13 having a plurality of fluid-distributing orifices 16 therethrough, and intermediate means 12 defining a plurality of apertures 17 between the first and second wall members, each aperture 17 providing communication between one metering orifice 15 and at least one distributing. orifice 16, and each metering orifice being laterally offset relative to the respective distributing orifice or orifices. In the nozzle illustrated, the wall members 11, 13 and intermediate means 12 comprise coaxial tubes fixed together by welds 18, 19. The cross-sectional area of the distributing orifice 16 is from 2 to 4 times, preferably 2“ times, the cross-sectional area of the metering orifice 15. The nozzle is received in an aperture of a distributor plate 20, the plate having, in the case of a fluidized bed in a boiler, a refractory lining 22 which supports a bed of fluidizable particulate material. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the orifices and intermediate means are formed in respective plate members, and the distributing orifices are divergent.
