1396318 Cigarette making-machines MOLINS Ltd 27 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 50492/71 Heading A2C In an apparatus for making filter-tipped cigarettes, tobacco is fed into spaces between regularly spaced studs 14 on a first suction conveyer 4, the tobacco sections 16 formed between the studs 14 are carried towards a contnuous wrapper web (22), Fig. 1 (not shown) by a second suction conveyer (20), and filter sections (23) are fed into the spaces between successive tobacco sections 16. Preferably the studs 14 are so sized and spaced as to enable tobacco sections 16 of double cigarette length, with gaps between them each large enough to accommodate a double length filter, to be produced. The studs 14 may be permanently attached to the first conveyer 4 or may be attached thereto by suction. In the latter case, Fig. 9 (not shown), they are temporarily removed from the lower run of the first conveyer band (92), after the depositing of the tobacco sections (95) on a suction transfer wheel (98), and are subsequently replaced and then realigned by a timing device before further tobacco is showered on the band (98) in its upper run. As shown, tobacco showered on the conveyer band 4 initially covers the studs 14, Fig. 2A, but on leaving the shower zone air currents cause most of this surplus tobacco to be redistributed as shown in Fig. 2B. The remaining tobacco 16 on the outermost faces of the studs 14 is then trimmed off to produce a stream as shown in Fig. 2C.
