Abstract

1395564 Steam irons WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 26 Sept 1972 [5 Nov 1971] 44329/72 Heading D1A A steam/dry iron has a first steam generating chamber 76 supplyable with water through a drip feed valve 68 and an auxiliary chamber 86 supplyable with water by a manual pump 12 for providing larger amounts of steam, the auxiliary chamber communicating through a tortuous duct 104 with the chamber 76 which in turn communicates with steam ports 100. The bimetallic element thermostat 38 is secured between the sole plate 11 and a cover plate 22 adjacent the chamber 86 and a wall of the duct 104 to provide rapid response and complete vaporisation of water drops is ensured by the sinuous duct 104 and the ducts from the chamber 76 passing over the heating element 33.
