Abstract
1393669 Railway systems TREBRON HOLDINGS Ltd 4 July 1972 [7 July 1971] 31821/71 Heading B7L A transport system for use in a building B having a plurality of access points Au, Ad comprises continuous flow guide rails which may be in the form of an ascending main guide rail 16 and a descending main guide rail 14 with arcuate guide rail portions, as 18 joining the ends thereof, and alternate guide rails 24, 22 disposed parallel to the rails 16, 14 the alternate rails providing access to the points Au, Ad a plurality of cabs 30, for passengers and freight, independently drivable, e.g. by means of linear electric motors 70, on the guide rails, and pivotable rail diverting mechanisms 72 for directing cabs between the main and alternate guide rails whereby cabs 30 on the alternate guide rails 24, 22 may stop at access points, and cabs on the main guide rails 16, 14 may pass those on the alternate guide rails. Each cab 30 is guided between pairs of opposed guide rails mounted on opposite sides of a shaft in the building B in which the cabs can move. At each side thereof each cab is provided with a bogie 32 having guide wheels (not shown) which run on the rails and with linear motors 70 for driving the bogies therealong. Each bogie 36 carries a frame 42 pivotally mounted thereon and a control clutch 68 is provided to maintain the cab in an upright position at all times. Each frame 42 carries two pivotally mounted arms 34, 38 which are secured to the body of the cab to provide a parallelogram linkage and a hydraulic ram 64 is provided to displace the cab between the two extreme positions illustrated, Fig. 3, the ram being actuated when the cab is on the alternate rails so as to provide access to the points Au, Ad as shown in Fig. 4. The rail diverting mechanisms 72 are pivotally mounted to provide for transfer of the cabs between the main and alternate guide parts (Fig. 4). As an alternative to the pivotally mounted mechanisms 72, laterally shiftable rail sections may be provided to allow such transfer. Arrangements are also described wherein the cabs may move along horizontally disposed guide rails and transfer may be effected between vertical and horizontal sections. In a further alternative embodiment (Fig. 11A) cabs 30 are disposed to move up and down a central sub-shaft S<SP>1</SP> in the shaft S, the cabs having multi-directional guide rollers 176 and stabilizing rollers 180 and linear drive motors 170. The rollers 176 bear against the inside of the subshaft S<SP>1</SP> and are carried on bogie frames 178 which pass through vertical guide slots 182 in the shaft S<SP>1</SP>. By rotation of the rollers 176 on the bogie frames the cabs 30 may move round the shaft S<SP>1</SP> on horizontal guide slots 184 or be diverted along a horizontal shaft 186 a shaft inclined thereto (192). Four pairs of vertical guide slots 182 are provided at 90 degrees intervals round the shaft S<SP>1</SP> allowing for up and down continuous and up and down alternate or stopping circuits.
