Abstract

1392437 Matrix displays MARCONI CO Ltd 30 March 1972 [7 July 1971] 31863/71 Heading G5C An indicator arrangement includes a plurality of elongated light guides 1 at least a portion of the outer longitudinal surfaces of each guide being provided with a surface layer of phosphor, and means 2 for introducing exciting radiation into selectable ones of the light guides. The light guides may be fibres of glass or plastics material, may be in crossed array and woven to form a mesh, and ground at the cross over points 3, phosphor 4 being only at these regions. Phosphors may be lanthanum or barium fluoride doped with rare earths, and excitation sources of infra red GaAs emitters, at one or both ends of the guides. Fibres may be 1 mm. diameter, spaced four/cm. A map position indicator (Fig. 3, not shown), includes lead (7) activating emitters 2 to produce two crossing dotted lines.
