Abstract
1389908 Esters of* bis-(beta-hydroxyethyl)- tetraphthalate HALCON INTERNATIONAL Inc 30 June 1972 [1 July 1971] 30795/72 Heading C2C A method of preparing a di(lower carboxylate ester) of bis-(beta-hydroxyethyl)terephthalate and/or oligomers thereof comprises contacting a mono-(beta-acyloxyethyl)terephthalate the acyl group of which is formyl, acetyl or propionyl, with a di-(lower carboxylate ester) of ethylene glycol or a mixture of said di-ester of ethylene glycol with the corresponding monoester of ethylene glycol in the liquid phase at a reaction temperature from 100‹ to 350‹ C. and, at reaction temperatures below 150‹ C., in the presence of an acidic catalyst. Examples describe the preparation of bis-(beta-acetoxyethyl)terephthalate and the corresponding betaformyloxy- and -propronoxyethyl-compounds.
