Abstract

1388105 Moulding decorative panels B D DE LA COUR and M B ANTONELLI 8 Feb 1972 [12 Nov 1970] 53950/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B6] A decorative panel is produced by arranging discrete elements of synthetic plastics of different sizes and shapes in a pattern on a support surface, filling the gaps between the elements with a flowable polyester resin and allowing the resin to harden and form a slab for subsequent removal from the surface. The support surface may be smooth and the elements may have a smooth planar surface adjacent the support so that the resulting slab has a polished appearance. Alternatively the surface of the slab remote from the support surface may be ground and/or polished. In an embodiment elements of methyl methacrylate resin were arranged on a glass support surface and a mould frame located thereon to define the periphery of the finished slab and having a wall standing upwardly from the support surface. Polyester resin optionally containing a colouring agent was flowed into the mould, allowed to set and the resultant slab removed from the mould.
