Abstract

1387672 Liquid level indication H ULRICH 7 Aug 1972 [9 Aug 1971] 36687/72 Heading G1H In a liquid level indicator the arrangement is such that a light conducting rod 5, mounted on the wall of a liquid container, has a light directed on the rod 5 so that a light detector 14 detects when the liquor level is below a.predetermined level when the internal light reflection ocurrs in the rod and when the liquid is above the level when total internal reflection does not occur, and the tip 8 of the rod 5 is shaped so that its axial cross-section has a radius of curvature that continuously decreases towards the tip. In a further embodiment, Fig. 7 (not shown), the indicator may be moved vertically to scan the liquid to find the level. The rod 5 may be clamped at the nodal point so that vibration of the rod 5 will cause impurities to be removed therefrom. The rod 5 may also be provided with a plurality of tips, Fig. 2 (not shown).
