Abstract
1387016 Mixing and agitating; agitator mills COLORTEX SA 29 Feb 1972 [15 March 1971 5 Oct 1971] 9322/72 Headings B1C and B2A A rotor for treating liquids by immersion therein comprises a cylinder open at one end and having at least one row of apertures communicating with conduits 15 which may be supported by a reinforcing ring 20; the total volume of the conduits of one row is approximately equal to that of the cylinder and less than 33% of the volume of the body of revolution swept by the conduits when in rotation. In modifications the cylinder may be open at both ends and have a transverse partition (13, Fig. 4, not shown) effectively forming two adjacent rotors; the conduits may be formed by bores or grooves in or in the face of a solid disc, which may be circular or rectangular (see Figs. 5, 6 and 15, not shown); the conduits may be straight or curved, may be circular or square in cross-section, may narrow towards the outer end, and be defined between solid or hollow bodies shrouded between plates 2, 3, Fig. 7, and there may be vanes as 16a in the liquid entry zone. There may be more than one rotor and shaft in the same container, see Fig. 15, (not shown). In another embodiment the conduits may be arranged axially between the curved surfaces of cylinders 2, 3, Fig. 16; there may be several coaxial rows of such conduits and they may be associated with radial conduits (Fig. 17, not shown); axial conduits may also extend from the closed end of the cylinder 2 (see Fig. 18, not shown). More than one rotor may be mounted on the same shaft (Figs. 4, 8, 15 and 16a, not shown). Material may be fed to the entry end of the cylinder 2 as by a stationary screw (18, Fig. 12 not shown) or by a fluid jet (Fig. 14, not shown). The apparatus may be used for batch or continuous treatments (Fig. 9-14 not shown). Materials may enter at or be discharged from the top or bottom of the container, or both. Comminuting. Milling bodies such as sand or glass beads may be added to the material to be treated.
