Abstract
1385906 Detecting earth leakage faults ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS Ltd 27 April 1972 [29 April 1971] 12118/71 Heading G1U An earth leakage fault, for example in the windings of a motor, is tested for, when the motor is inoperative, by applying a potential between the windings, or other part to be tested, and earth, and indicating the resulting current that flows on a meter which may have three different coloured ranges corresponding to "safe", "requires inspection" and "danger". As described a half-wave rectified supply 7, Fig.1, including a bleed resistor 8, is applied to the device to be tested via current limiting resistor 9, 10, a meter 3 and a switch 4, the switch 4 being coupled to the supply switch of the device to be tested so that a test can only be made when the device is inoperative.
