Abstract

1385487 Rotary positive-displacement engines BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO Ltd 16 June 1972 [18 June 1971] 28680/71 Heading F1F In a Wankel-type I. C. engine to cool the rotor 9 combustion air enters a carburetter 21 by way of passages 14, 16 in housing end-plates 3, 4, apertures 18 in the rotor, apertures 19 in an eccentric journal 8 of a shaft 5, and a duct 20, the latter being furnished with a valve 22 to admit additional air when a high torque output is required. The valve may be linked to the throttle valve of the carburetter or be responsive to pressure reduction in the duct 20. The shaft 5 has bearings 6, 7, which may be lubricated by oil mist in the air flowing to the carburetter, and carries a flywheel 23 and a balance weight 24.
