Abstract

1385122 Purging inflammable vapour from tanks C D S BRIDGETT 1 March 1973 [13 March 1972] 11708/72 Heading ASA A process for purging the interior of a tank or tanker which has been used to contain or transport inflammable or explosive liquids comprises treating, e.g. by spraying, the interior surface with an emulsifier and/or surface-active agent dissolved in a solvent, after a short time washing off the mixture with water, and purging the atmosphere e.g. with a low pressure high volume air blower. A preferred mixture of surfactants comprises equal parts by weight of an alkyl phenol/ethylene oxide condensate and a fatty alcohol/ethylene oxide condensate in water. Preferred solvents are trichlorethylene, trichloroethane and trichlorotrifluoroethane.
