Abstract
1384452 Thermionic valves STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 2 March 1972 9729/72 Heading HID An arrangement comprises a thermionic grid controlled power valve and a permanent magnet structure arranged to produce a magnetic focusing field, a part of the structure being movable to vary the power output and minimize grid current. A valve as described in Specification 1,195,703 comprises an array of filamentary cathodes 10 between grid plates 4 or aligned sets of rods within an anode 11. Additional rods between the plates 12 and anode form a second grid. The valve surrounded by a water cooling jacket is mounted between polepieces 27, 28 of an assembly including, two U-shaped members 30, 31 secured to a base 32. The field is varied by moving plates 24, 35 which extend through slots in the base using a gear-wheel on spindle 41. The valve is arranged in a tuned anode coupled grid oscillator circuit for induction heating. The circuit comprises a work coil L3 in series with an anode tank coil L2 coupled to a feed-back coil L1. The D.C. return comprises a choke L5 and resistor R1. Coil L2 and capacitor C2 are watercooled.
