Abstract

1383686 Casting composite articles XALOY Inc 9 Nov 1972 [10 Nov 1971] 51759/72 Heading B3F [Also in Division C7] Linings for extruder barrels or injectionmoulding cylinders are centrifugally cast in situ from molten alloys containing 30 to 45% by weight tungsten carbide in a nickel- or cobaltrich matrix. The tungsten carbide particles are dispersed in differential concentrations across the cross-section of the lining, the greatest concentration being near the substrate housing of the barrel or cylinder. Preferably the tungsten carbide is only present across 45 to 80% of the lining, enabling machining of the innermost surface to be readily accomplished.
