Abstract

1383366 Lamps ING C OLIVETTI & C SpA 10 March 1972 [12 March 1971] 11394/72 Heading F4R A lamp comprises a light source disposed at the common focus 16 of two families of confocal ellipses the other foci of the families being spaced apart at 18, 18<SP>1</SP> on an objective plane to be illuminated, a first set of reflecting segments 48, 50 ... 60 forming portions of one of the families being disposed about the source forwardly thereof to reflect light to the focus 18<SP>1</SP> and a second set of reflecting segments 49, 51 ... 59 forming portions of the other family being disposed about the source rearwardly thereof to reflect light to the focus 18, the light reflected by the second set of segments passing between the segments of the first set. Similar sets of segments 48<SP>1</SP>-60<SP>1</SP> and 49<SP>1</SP>-59<SP>1</SP> forming portions of the other and the one family, respectively, are also disposed about the source, and a reflector 62 consisting of a circular section or a pair of elliptical sections is disposed behind the source. The source may be a point or a tube and the reflectors are ellipsoidal or cylindrical as appropriate. The segments may be formed as a unitary structure on the surface of a clear glass or plastics block or, in the case of cylindrical segments, may consist of thin aluminium sheets fitted in appropriately shaped slots in a pair of parallel plates.
