Abstract

1383185 Side loading fork unit for lift trucks BYGG-OCH TRANSPORTEKONOMI (BT) AB 28 June 1973 [11 July 1972] 30842/73 Heading B8H A side loading fork unit for lift trucks comprises a body with tubes 1 into which the forks of a lift truck may be inserted in use of the unit, forks 7 (only one shown) and intermediate guides 5 (only one shown) mounted for lateral movement to either side of the unit. As shown a double-acting hydraulic-cylinder 13 is mounted on the body for movement along a piston-rod 12 in the same direction as the forks and guides 7, 5. A small gear-wheel 14 fixed to a large gear-wheel 16 is mounted on a stationary shaft 15 and engages a rack on the cylinder 13, the gear-wheel 16 engaging a rack 17 attached to the guide 5. Chains or cables 19, 20 attached to either end of the cylinder 13 through brackets 18 cross, pass around respective pulleys 21 at either end of the guide 5, cross again and are attached at either end of the fork 7. Movement of the cylinder 13 along the rod 12 thus extends the fork 7 and the guide 5, the arrangement allowing the fork 7 to be moved outside the body of the unit, Fig. 5 (not shown). The gear-wheel 16 also engages a gear-wheel 22 attached to a synchronizing rod 23 similarly coupled to a second fork 7, Figs. 2, 4 (not shown).
