Seams.-Openwork seams and edge trimmings are made by zigzag lines of stitches, of which some of the stitches do not engage with the work. Figs. 3 and 5 show openwork seams, and Fig. 4 shows an edge trimming. Sewing-machines; presser-feet; work-supports. -Suitable enchaining tongues are furnished on either the presser-foot or the throat plate. A machine such as that described in Specification 115,165, having a laterally vibrating needle, may be used.
