Abstract

1381548 Photographic transfer process POLAROID CORP 30 March 1972 [1 April 1971] 15050/72 Heading G2C A photographic silver salt diffusion transfer process comprises developing an exposed silver halide emulsion in which at least 95% of the silver halide grains have a diameter of at least 0À5Á with an aqueous processing solution including a hydroxylamine developing agent and a silver halide solvent and transferring at least a portion of the imagewise distribution of silver complex formed to a superposed stratum of regenerated cellulose containing a silver precipitating agent. Preferably the developing agent is of formula:- (R<SP>1</SP>) (R<SP>2</SP>)NOH (in which R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl, alkoxyalkyl or alkoxyalkoxyalkyl; R<SP>2</SP> is H, alkyl, alkoxyalkyl, alkoxyalkoxyalkyl or alkenyl), and the receiving stratum is formed by the partial depthwise hydrolysis of a cellulose ester containing the precipitating agent and a mercapto compound. In the Examples, the receiving element is formed by coating baryta paper with 2 layers of cellulose diacetate containing 1,6-bis(5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazolyl-2- thio)-hexane, the outer layer also containing NiS, and then hydrolyzing the outer layer; the aqueous processing solution contains KOH, TiO 2 , ZnO, hydroxyethyl cellulose, triethanolamine, 2,4-dimercaptopyrimidine, uracil and either tetrahydropyrimidine-thio or imidazolidine-thione. The invention also relates to a film unit for effecting the above process.
