Abstract

1380663 Preventing excessive build up at package ends SIEMENS AG 21 June 1973 [22 June 1972] 29630/73 Heading D1J A yarn traverse mechanism has control means that:-(a) determines the instant of reversal; (b) shortens the traverse length if humps appear at the ends of the traverse windings; and (c) reduces the compensatory effect of (b) the reduction being effected at a rate which is a predetermined function of time. In Fig. 1 a reversable motor 3 drives a threaded shaft 2 on which a traverse wheel 1 is threaded. As the wheel 1 is traversed to the right of the reel 5 exploring means 12 carried by the wheel 1 responds to the presence of the flange 7 to cause the motor 3 to reverse its direction. The wheel 1 then moves to the right of the reel 5 and when further exploring means 13 carried by the wheel 1 responds to the presence of the flange 8 the motor 3 is again caused to reverse its direction of motion. When lumps are formed adjacent the flanges 7, 8, the increased tension in the materiaal 14 at the reversal points causes a tension sensing device 15 to act on a potentiometer to shorten the traverse stroke. This is achieved by allowing the exploring means 12, 13 to have, under normal conditions, a delay time T between sensing a flange and reversing the motor 3. The tension sensing device 15 shortens this delay time T and so shortens the traverse length. Thereafter the delay time T is gradually restored at a predetermined rate. The reel 5 is rotated by a motor 10 the speed of which is gradually diminished to give a constant wind-up speed. A detailed circuit diagram is included.
