Abstract

1380411 Adhesive coated metal foil EVODE Ltd 6 Jan 1972 [8 Jan 1971] 977/71 Heading B2E A pressure-sensitive adhesive laminate comprises a backing sheet of copper, lead or stainless steel foil coated with a pressure-sensitive adhesive layer which is 0.005 to 0.1 inches thick, the copper foil being of soft temper and having a thickness of not more than 0.002 inches, the lead foil having a weight of 6-12 ounces per square foot and the stainless steel having a thickness of 0.00025-0.00075 inches. The exposed surface of the adhesive may be protected with a layer of sheet material having a release surface. The preferred adhesive is based on bitumen and may include a further plastic polymer such as polyethylene and/or a natural or synthetic rubber.- Alternatively the adhesive may comprise a blend of a styrenebutadiene block copolymer, a solid tackifying resin, a processing oil and/or a liquid tackifying resin and an inert filler. The laminate may be cut into strips to form an adhesive sealing tape thread used to provide a water and dustproof seal to joints in buildings or to provide similar seals to seams in structures built from light metal pressings, e.g. refrigerator cabinets, or it may be used as a maintenance and repair material for sealing cracks and holes in roofs and gutters. The adhesive layer may be reinforced with a woven or non-woven fabric.
