Abstract

1380034 Gripping tools GUSTAVSBERGS FABRIKER AB 29 May 1973 [1 June 1972] 25561/73 Heading B4W In a pair of gripping tongs in which closure of the jaws of the tongs is effected by drawing a gripping member 1 carrying the jaws into a taper chuck 3, the chuck 3 is axially displaceable on a projecting portion 8 of a locking member 2 the locking member 2 and the end face of the chuck body being provided with complementary annular coupling teeth 7, 6 which are engageable on actuation of the tongs to prevent rotation of the chuck and thus also of the gripping member 1. A resilient member 9 interposed between the end of the projecting portion 8 of the locking member and an inwardly directed flange 5 of the chuck 3 maintains the teeth 6, 7 in a normally disengaged relation. A hub portion 10 of the gripping member is of rectangular section and is slidably held in guide grooves 11 in the chuck 3. The tongs may be operated as described in Specification 1,237,482.
