Abstract

1379144 Face masks D J DOUGLAS 10 Nov 1972 [11 Nov 1971] 52115/72 Heading G2J Swimming headgear wherein fogged vision areas can be cleaned by sloshing water comprises a contoured semi-rigid plastics sheath 10 sealed at its periphery to the face by means of a plastics tube 23 containing a foamed plastics body strip 24; the tube 23 may be inflatable. The sheath 10 comprises an outer plate 14 having vision areas 15, and an inner plate 16 having holes corresponding to the vision areas 15, the borders 17 of the holes being turned down towards the outer plate 14 without touching it. An annular channel 18 for the sloshing water is thus defined around each vision area 15, and leads into a pocket in the temple area of the headgear. Alternatively the sheath may be used in conjunction with a flexible or semi-rigid plastics bonnet. The sealing is then arranged to be between bonnet and head, and the sheath is arranged to be adjustable in position with respect to the seal. The bonnet may have an expansion panel closable by a sliding clamp fastener, may be padded, and may have an air port on a breathing valve. The bonnet may be transparent and/or tinted.
