Abstract

1378226 Supporting and closing filled bags APPARATENBOUW MOBA NV 8 Sept 1972 [10 Sept 1971] 41739/72 Heading B8C A device for packing objects in a bag comprises a bag support (Fig. 4) having flaps 166, 170 which are pivotable from an open position (not shown) for receiving the filled bag to the closed position shown for supporting the bag. A plurality of such supports and closing and securing apparatus (Fig. 6) are mounted on a conveyer (not shown) beneath a bag filling apparatus. The flaps are closed by means of a roller 172 on a pivoted bent arm 171 co-operating with a stationary shaped guide 173 and are locked in the closed position by a roller 161 on the bent arm 171 engaging one abutment 168 pivotally connected to a bent arm 165 connected to the flap 166. The flaps are initially opened by an ascending portion of a guide 169<SP>1</SP> co-operating with a roller 169 connected to the abutment 168. The whole assembly is tilted with the flaps in the closed position by ascending portions of guides 176 and 169<SP>1</SP> to place the open neck of the bag on a strip 127 of the closing and securing apparatus. The bag neck is then grasped by a pair of V-shaped claws (148) on horizontally pivoted arms (147) and a vertically pivoted beam 129. These pivoting movements are obtained by movement to the left, by means of a guide 121 and follower roller 120, of a sleeve 119 to which the arms (147) and beam 129 are connected through linkages. The shaft 108 bearing the strip 127 and the sleeve 119 and the parts connected thereto are rotated, by means of a pinion (109) on the shaft 108 engaging a stationary rack (149), in order to twist the bag neck. Simultaneously, the support is tilted slightly anticlockwise to stretch the bag neck. The bag closure can then be secured by heat sealing, stapling, or sewing.
