Abstract
947,439. Packaging-machines. K. OH, [trading as HABRA-WERK, WILHELM F. OH]. Feb. 8, 1962, No. 4836/62. Heading B8C. The triangular closure flaps produced by a cross bottom fold at the top of a filled bag are sealed by means carried on a turret rotating about a vertical axis, the axis being also that of the bag conveyer sprocket, the means including a pair of jaws which press the flaps against a heated element between them. The bags are carried in pockets 6 mounted on the conveyer, the pockets having hinged sides 7, 8. The flaps 11 are raised to the vertical position by means 12 and enter between jaws 14, 15 and a central heated member 22 mounted on each arm 13 of the turret 3. A fixed cam 21 closes the jaws, and the sides 7, 8 open, allowing the bags to be carried by the jaws to above a shoot 26 where they open, permitting the bags to drop. In other embodiments (Figs. 3, 4, not shown), the jaws may be pivoted rather than slidable and the pockets may be constructed to enable finished bags to drop through them. The heated members may be secured to fixed radial arms 25 for engagement by the jaws.
