1377695 Reactive dyestuffs IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Jan 1973 [21 Feb 1972 14 June 1972] 7841/72 and 27745/72 Heading C4P The invention comprises reactive dyes of the general formula wherein Y is H, methyl or the two Y's together represent an oxygen atom, each n is 0 or 1, X is H, Cl or SO 3 -, R is H, SO 3 H, NR<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP> or NHZ, R<SP>1</SP> is H, optionally substituted C 1 -C 4 alkyl or optionally substituted benzyl, R<SP>2</SP> is an optionally substituted C 1 -C 4 alkyl, optionally substituted benzyl or optionally substituted phenyl radical, m is 1 or 2, Z is the acyl radical of a carboxylic acid or a heterocyclic radical and contains a cellulose reactive substituent, the group NHZ being the group R, and/or being attached to a carbon atom in R<SP>2</SP>, the dyestuff containing at least two sulphonic acid groups. They are prepared by first preparing a triarylmethane or xanthene dye containing a group NHZ where Z is H and then reacting the dye with a carboxylic acid chloride or haloheterocyclic compound containing a cellulose reactive group. The reaction takes place at 0-100‹ C. at pH 5-8 in aqueous or an aqueousorganic solvent medium. In preferred embodiments, one or two halotriazine radicals may be introduced into the dyestuff and further reaction may take place with ammonia, an amine, an alkali metal of sulphurous acid or a thio-compound and dyes containing two dye nuclei linked via two triazine groups and a diamine radical. The dyes are used to dye wool, silk, leather, superpolyamides, cotton, linen and viscose in red, blue, mauve and violet shades.
