Abstract
1377093 Portable gas dosimeter BRITISH STEEL CORP 22 June 1972 [23 June 1971] 29487/71 Heading G1B In a portable gas dosimeter, a motor 3, activated by, for example, a nickel cadmium cell 2 drives a diaphragm pump 4 so as to draw contaminated air through an indicator tube 10 via a flowmeter 14 and tube 13. If carbon monoxide is to be detected, the tube 10 contains a cleaning layer 12, and granular silica gell impregnated with iodine pentoxide, sulphuric acid, and a selenium compound catalyst. A brown stain of iodine is released on reaction with carbon monoxide, the length of the stain, as measured by markings 11, indicating the dose of CO impurity experienced. A palladium salt may be used as the reacting agent. The time of operation of the dosimeter is measured by a counter arrangement 17 driven via a sprocket 18 and worm gear 19 by the motor 3.
