Abstract
1376833 Charging boreholes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd and ROCK FALL CO Ltd 24 April 1973 [31 May 1972] 25492/72 Heading E1F A method of charging an underwater borehole 23 with fluent explosive 16 comprises loading the explosive into one end 11 of a tube 10 which contains a freely slidable piston 13 (Fig. 1), blocking the end 11 with an explosives priming pellet 20, placing the tube in the borehole with end 11 formost (Fig. 3), and applying fluid under pressure to the other end 12 to move the piston 13 down the tube and force out first the pellet 20 and then the explosive 16 (Fig. 4). The tube 10 is formed from a flexible transparent plastics material such as P.V.C., polythene, or polypropylene, reinforced with filamentary material, and has stop members at each end to prevent ejection of the piston. The piston 13 comprises a body member with resilient sealing members at each end and is either formed as an integral construction of rubber or plastics, or has the body member constructed from metal such as stainless steel with replacable sealing members of rubber, leather, or plastics (Fig. 2, not shown).
