Abstract

1375935 Lined cartons PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 17 July 1972 [16 July 1971] 33390/72 Heading B8P A container 20 comprises an outer carton 21 and an inner liner 22 having a dispensing aperture 29 which is covered by a lid 23 hinged to the outer carton, the lid 23 being initially sealed to the perimeter of the aperture 29 by an adhesive 26. The dispensing aperture 29 may be wholly die-cut from the liner 22 or may, as shown, comprise a portion 25 separated from the remainder of the liner 22 by a line of weakness 27 and secured by the adhesive 26 to the lid 23 so that it is removed from the liner 22 when the lid 23 is opened initially. A second endless line of unpeelable adhesive (26<SP>1</SP>) may be disposed inside the adhesive line 26 to ensure removal of the portion 25. The liner 22 may be a laminate of a fibrous material and an aluminium foil, the fibrous material layer being outermost and a portion of it being torn away with the adhesive 26 on initial opening of the lid. The liner 22 is secured to the carton 21 by lines of adhesive 31. A flap (53) narrower than and hinged to the side 48 of the carton is folded over and glued to the inside of side 48 to form a projecting lip 56 beneath which a nose 41 of the lid 32 engages. The lid 23 may be vacuum thermoformed from high impact polystyrene, as shown, or may form an integral part of the carton 21. In the latter embodiment, the lid (23<SP>1</SP>) is planar, the liner 22 abuts the lid (23<SP>1</SP>), and the portion (25<SP>1</SP>) is formed by a U-shaped line of weakness.
