Abstract
1375893 Cartons WILLIAM W CLELAND Ltd 14 May 1973 [13 May 1972] 22568/72 Heading B8P A carton has at least one cavity wall the top of which forms a platform, or a support for a platform, bounded by upstanding walls, the platform and walls forming an article receiving portion. In one embodiment the carton is formed from the blank shown in Fig. 1 which is folded to form opposed cavity walls 8, 18, Fig. 5, and upstanding walls 10, 10B, flaps 4 and 6 forming end walls. A separate blank (Fig. 2) forms the platform and upstanding end walls and rests on platforms 16 of the blank shown in Figure 1. In another embodiment (Figs. 8 and 9) the platform is formed by the portions 16 that meet on the centre line of the carton, the upstanding end walls being formed by extensions on end walls 4. Fig. 13 shows an embodiment in which one side 8 has an extension 70 forming the platform and being provided with extensions 78, 80, 82 forming upstanding end walls. If all four walls are of double construction they may be held together by clips engaging adjacent corners of the upstanding walls (Figs. 11 and 12); alternatively a vacuum formed tray (84, Fig. 16) may fit over the upstanding walls and secure them together.
