1374002 Surgical stapler VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT KHIRURGICHESKOI APPARATURY I INSTRUMENTOV and VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT MEDITSINSKOGO PRIBOROSTROENIA 3 May 1972 [3 May 1971] 20479/72 Heading B4C [Also in Division A5] A suturing instrument has a magazine 22 carrying metal staples in three parallel rows, and two independently movable staple ejectors 28, (29), Figs. 3, 5 (not shown), one ejector 28 for simultaneously ejecting two of said rows of staples and bending them in two rows of depressions in an anvil 2, and one ejector (29) for subsequently ejecting the third row of staples and bending them in a third row of depressions in said anvil 2, the portion (10) of the anvil 2 carrying said third row of depressions being removable from the instrument, and the portion 9 carrying said two rows of depressions preferably being tapered in thickness, to facilitate positioning of the instrument when only a double row suture is required. The tissues to be sutured are attached to the instrument by means of pins 8, 27 engaging in holes in projections 7, 26 and by a member 37. The magazine 22 is carried by a member 16 and is moved towards jaw 2 on rotation of a nut 20. The rear ends of ejectors 28, (29) are formed with threaded shanks carrying nuts 33, (34), the ejectors being moved to eject the staples, by rotation of the nut 33 or (34) by a removable key 35, movement of the ejectors being limited by a stop 36.
