1373857 Coiling INSTITUT FRANCAIS DU PETROLE 23 June 1972 [29 June 1971] 29600/72 Heading DIT An apparatus for storing an elongate flexible member e.g. hose 18, comprises an inner cylindrical frame 1 with a substantially vertical axis, an outer cylindrical frame 2 substantially coaxial with the inner frame 1, the frames forming a space 3 open at its upper part to allow passage of the member 18, and closed at its lower part by an annular base plate 4, the annular base plate being constituted by a plurality of sector-shaped elements 6 interconnected by flexible connecting means 7 to permit relative vertical displacement, the apparatus also including means for guiding the rotation of the assembly about the vertical axis, driving means cooperating with the guiding means and means for energising the driving means. The guiding means and driving means cooperating with each other for simultaneously supporting and driving in rotation the base plate 4, one of the guiding means and the driving means being solid with the base plate and the other being stationary with respect to the axis. The inner and outer frames 1 and 2 are constituted by rigid vertical rods 5. The guiding means comprises at least one circular rail fixed either to the base plate 4 or the support surface 13, the driving means being in the form of wheels in contact with said rail, one at least of the wheels being driven for rotation. The power source for the driven wheels may be hydraulic or electrical. When the element 18 is a pipe for conducting fluid, the fluid is supplied via a rotary coupling 16, coaxial with the frames 1 and 2, and a pipe 19. A further rotary coupling 17 may supply fluid to hydraulic motors 14 for the wheels.
