Abstract
1373665 Electrographic developing apparatus XEROX CORP 13 Dec 1971 [15 Dec 1970 18 Dec 1970 (2)] 57754/71 Heading G2H A layer of toner particles on a donor member 24 is treated to remove toner agglomerates and to render it uniform in thickness before application to a latent image. Donor member 24 may be a roller having a conductive core bearing an intermediate insulating layer and an outer, electrically biased conductive screen layer; or alternatively may be a belt. As shown, donor 24 is loaded with toner from a vibrated reservoir 26, a vacuum manifold 30 removes toner agglomerates and renders the toner layer uniform in thickness, and then the toner layer is electrostatically charged at 32 before application to a drum 10. Donor 24 is cleared by a corotron 40 and brush 42. Instead of (or in addition to) manifold 30, an electrically biased or earthed roller 34 may be used in conjunction with a cleaning brush 36 and vacuum system 38. Roller 34 may have projecting ridges 48, Fig. 2 (not shown), to help remove agglomerates.
