Abstract
1372420 Cutting torches AGA AB 6 Oct 1971 [19 Oct 1970] 46475/71 Heading F4T A burner nozzle for cutting purposes has a cutting-gas channel 1, an annular chamber 5 adjacent the outlet end of the nozzle, a second channel-formation 4 around the channel 1 and communicating with the chamber 5, and means providing a plurality of channels 6 helically inclined to the nozzle axis and communicating with chamber 5, channels 6 being suitable for mixing therein a burning gas and a heating gas when both are supplied to the channels 6 with one of these gases being supplied thereto through the second channel formation 4, the resulting mixture emerging in a substantially annular flow around the cutting-gas jet from channel 1 and forming a heating flame. An inlet head 2 has an integral tubular portion forming channel 1 with a central cutting-gas passage leading thereto and has burning-gas passages leading to channels 4 or 6, preferably to channels 6, and heating-gas passages leading preferably to channel-formation 4. The channels 6 may terminate in slots 8 and may be passages formed in an annular wall of a sleeve (23), Figs. 7 to 9 (not shown), around channel 1, or slots defined between an inner sleeve 3 and an outer sleeve 7. The outlet ends of the channel 1 and sleeve 3 may terminate beyond the outlet end of sleeve 7, the nozzle outlet being shaped to define part of a sphere, Fig. 10 (not shown). The channel-formation 4 is an annular passage defined between channel 1 and sleeve 3 or (23). The cutting and heating gases may be air or oxygen, and the burning gas may be propane, natural gas, acetylene or an acetylene/propane mixture. The gas mixture flowing through channels 6 has a substantial cooling effect on the nozzle.
