Abstract

1370857 Colouring anodized aluminium by electro-deposition CEGEDUR SOC DE TRANSFORMATION DE L'ALUMINIUM PECHINEY 23 June 1972 [25 June 1971 10 Sept 1971] 29557/72 Heading C7B Pre-anodized Al or Al alloy e.g. Al-Mg-Si is coloured bronze to black by cathodically depositing a heavy metal, e.g. Ni, Co, Cu, Ag, Pb or Sn, or compound thereof into the pores of the oxide layer from an aqueous solution containing a heavy metal sulphamate, e.g. 0À2 to 1À6 mol/l Ni sulphamate (PH adjusted to 3À5- 5À6,) or 0À01 to 0À1 mol/l Pb or Sn sulphamate or 0À002 to 0À01 mol/l Ag sulphamate (pH adjusted to 1-1À5 with sulphamic acid), with 25 to 50 g/l boric acid as buffer. #-naphthol may be added to the Sn sulphamate bath. All forms of one-way current can be used: rectified, non- filtered or periodically interrupted current (with the Al being discharged by short-circuiting with the anode). Pre-anodizing may be effected in H 2 SO 4 with D.C.
