Abstract

1370162 Twist grip switches SWF-SPEZIALFABRIK FUR AUTOZUBEHOR GUSTAV RAU GmbH 7 March 1972 [10 March 1971] 10477/72 Heading H1N A twist grip switch, mounted on the end of a steering column switch arm 10, comprises a twopart housing 17, rotatable with respect to the arm 10, a fixed contact block 11 carrying contacts, e.g. 12, 13, distributed around the column switch arm axis, the block 11 having a sleeve portion 113, and a rotatable contact bridging set 19 secured for limited axial movement with respect to and rotatably fixed with an actuator block 15, the block 15 being rotatably mounted on shaft 14, and held abutting the end of the sleeve 113 by spring 16. Cam tracks formed in the end of the sleeve 113 cause the contact actuator block 15 and the rotatable contacts 19 to move away from and into re-engagement with the fixed contacts as the block 15 is rotated by the key portions 172 of the housing 17 engaging portions 153 of the block. The spring 18 biases the rotatable contacts 19 away from the block 15 to the limit of their axial movement, such that on re-engaging the fixed contact, a wiping action is achieved as the spring is compressed during the final portion of the contact change process.
