Abstract

1368461 Shearing IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 21 Jan 1972 [27 Jan 1971] 3278/71 Heading B3W [Also in Divisions B4 and B5] A device for cutting a corrugated sheet 1 e.g. of plastics, metal or asbestos comprises two spaced stationary cutting blades 2, 3 against which the sheet rests and cutting blade 4 movable in a path between the stationary blades, the movable blade having a non-planar cutting surface which is adapted, as the blade moves in its path, to commence cutting the sheet at one of its edges and to cut the sheet progressively from that edge to another edge of the sheet. The blade 1 may be raised and lowered pneumatically and the device may be mounted on a carriage in order to cut the sheet when it is moving, e.g. as the sheet is being extruded. A method is described of shaping the corrugated edge of the movable blade such that it cuts the sheet with a gradual shearing action.
