Abstract

1368134 Trunk supports for chairs M KEROPIAN 28 Sept 1971 45214/71 Heading A4J A trunk support is mounted on each side 20 of a seating structure, e.g. a wheel chair, for pivotal movement between a patient supporting position and an open position permitting the patient to enter or alight from the seating structure. The trunk support comprises a curved padded body supporting plate 16 mounted on one arm 64 of an L-shaped member 60, the plate being horizontally and vertically slidable and pivotable about a vertical axis 82 relative to the one arm 64, the other arm 62 of the member 60 being horizontally slidable in a channel 44 formed in one of two bearing plates 34, 36 rotatable about an axis 42. Rotation of the bearing plates about axis 42 and therefore the body supporting plates 16 is effected by rotation of a hand wheel 57 provided with a shoulder 51 in abutment with one of three cam surfaces (55a, 55b, 55c) Fig. 3 (not shown) on the bearing plates which are spring-biased for movement about axis 42 in a clockwise direction as shown. A stop bar 49 defines a limiting position beyond which the bearing plates cannot pivot when wheel 57 is tightened. The two body supporting plates may be inter-connected by a strap 22.
