Abstract

1368105 Microwave ovens MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 2 Sept 1971 [9 Sept 1970] 40896/71 Heading H5H A microwave oven door seal 24 is provided by having a bi-planar transmission line 50 extending between the adjacent opposed surfaces of the heating cavity access opening 38 and the door 20 and feeding a pair of microwave energy filter cavities 58, 60. The filters 58, 60, are both in the door 20, or one is in the door whilst the other is in the oven wall, Fig. 6. A block 168, Fig. 7 (not shown), of lossy material, such as SiC, water extended polyethylene or silicone rubber graphite, may be situated in the cavity of filter 58 to absorb any energy leaking into the transmission line 50. The door may be mounted at an angle to the access opening, Fig. 9, to help preserve the seal when the door is opened initially. This provides additional protection in case the usual safety switches and interlocks are malfunctioning. (For Figures see next page.)
