Abstract
1367123 Garnets ROCKWELL INTERNATIONAL CORP 21 Dec 1971 [28 Dec 1970] 59456/71 Heading C1J Bubble domain - containing, film - substrate structures are made by depositing on a substrate an iron garnet film of a single crystal material having a negative magneto-striction constant along a crystallographic axis oriented approximately normal to the plane of the film, in which the substrate has a lattice constant of the iron garnet film by an amount less than 0À016 , and in which the coefficient of thermal expansion of the substrate is the same as or lower than that of the film by an amount not more than 1 x 10<-6>/ C. Preferably the film is an yttrium iron garnet deposited on mixed yttrium gadolinium gallium garnet by vapour deposition. Long lists of other transition element garnets are mentioned as films and substrates.
