Abstract
1365052 Purifying I C engine exhaust gases BENDIX CORP 2 Jan 1973 [28 Jan 1972] 211/73 Heading F1B A positive displacement air pump 19 operated at a speed proportional to engine speed has its inlet passage 25 connected to the intake manifold 11 downstream of the throttle valve 14 and its outlet passage 27 connected to the exhaust system. The pump 19 may be directly engine-driven through a belt or chain 20 or indirectly enginedriven by a synchronous electric motor (30), Fig. 2 (not shown) powered by a directly enginedriven alternator 32. The pipe 27 opens into the exhaust manifold 12 immediately downstream of the exhaust inlet ports and a thermal or catalytic reactor 16 is provided downstream of the exhaust manifold. The engine 10 may be of reciprocating piston or Wankel type.
