1364172 Induction heating PARKOHIO INDUSTRIES Inc 14 Feb 1972 [9 June 1971] 6791/72 Heading H5H An induction heating device comprises a fixed multi-turn primary winding 20 surrounding a single turn secondary winding 60 mounted at one end of an insulating carrier 50 and connected by leads 70, 72 to a single turn inductor 80 mounted at the other end of the insulating carrier 50, and means, e.g. a double acting pneumatic cylinder 110, for moving the carrier 50, the secondary 60 and the inductor 80 axially towards and away from a workpiece A. The secondary winding 60 comprises a single turn hollow sheet structure provided with a circumferential baffle 92 and an axially extending baffle (not shown) which direct coolant from an inlet 90 in the direction of the arrows so that the secondary and the inductor 80 are cooled. As shown, the inductor 80 is used to heat, prior to quenching, a conical valve seat 10 of an engine block A. In a modification (Fig. 5, not shown) the inductor 80 is much closer to the secondary 60. By using a fixed primary it is possible to use several carriers carrying appropriate secondaries and inductors for heating different types of valve seats. Indexing means are provided for moving the carrier into position with the primary before being moved into heating relationship with the valve seat.
