Abstract

1363849 Cathode-ray tubes EMI Ltd 29 Sept 1971 [16 Oct 1970] 49187/70 Heading H1D In a cathode-ray tube having, in the direction of the electron stream, first and second deflection systems 5 and 7, at least the first consisting of a pair of plates, the first system is preceded by an electron pervious electrode perpendicular to the undeflected beam and which co-operates with the first system, when suitable potentials are applied, to form a cylinder electrostatic lens to focus the beam to a line focus perpendicular to the direction of deflection. As shown, the electron pervious electrode may be a beamlimiting electrode 4 having an aperture 4a of a diameter small compared with the gap between the pair of plates 5. Reference is also made to the use of a mesh electrode mounted either across the mouth of the aperture 4, or between that electrode and the plates 5, in which case it is held at the same potential as the electrode 4.
