1363545 Fluid pressure apparatus acting through ropes; straddle carriers CKD PRAHA OBOROVY PODNIK 31 Aug 1972 40491/72 Headings B8B and B8H A lifting apparatus for raising and lowering two lifting jaws 10 of a mobile carrier comprises a pair of horizontal hydraulic rams which through an arrangement of pulleys 3, 4, 13, 14, 15 displace ropes 11, 12 connected between fixed points on the vehicle and the jaws 10, to raise and lower the jaws. Each cylinder 1 is anchored to the vehicle and the piston 2 carries two pulleys 3, 4 at its end, around which the ropes 11, 12 pass between their anchorages and the jaw 10, the ropes being guided by pulleys 13, 14, 15 freely rotatable on the vehicle. A rack 5 secured to each piston 2 drivingly engages an associated pinion 6, the two pinions 6 being drivingly coupled by a shaft 7 having brake discs 8 secured thereto. The discs 8 are each normally braked by a spring loaded pad which is hydraulically released as pressure is applied to the lifting rams to raise or lower the load carried between the jaws 10. In another embodiment a single ram is used with one rope being associated with each jaw.
