1481692 Fluid pressure actuated lifting cables ANTHONY CARRIMORE (SALES) Ltd 21 Oct 1973 [20 Oct 1973] 48972/73 Heading B8B [Also in Division B7] An upper deck 20 of a car transporter 17, is vertically movable along and between pairs of pillars 18, 19 at the ends of the transporter by a pulley and cable system 25, 26 actuated by a hydraulic ram 13, stops being provided on the guide pillars 19 to support one end of the deck 20 intermediate the ends of the pillars 19 while the other end of the deck is lowered to the base of the pillars 18 to provide a drive on ramp for vehicles to be transported. The cables 25 are anchored to one end 23 of the deck 20, pass around pulleys 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3 on the pillars 19 and transporter frame, around pulleys 1 on a movable guide 16 and are anchored to the frame at 22. The cables 26 are anchored to the other end 24 of the deck 20, pass around pulleys 12, 11, 10 on the pillars 18, around pulleys 2 on a movable guide 15, and are anchored to the frame at 22. The movable guide 15 is secured to the end of a piston rod 14 of the ram 13, whereas the movable guide 16 is coupled to the piston rod through a lost motion arrangement whereby with the ram 13 fully retracted, the two guides 15 and 16 are spaced apart and the deck 20 is inclined. Upon extending the ram, the guide 15 moves to a position adjacent the guide 16 during which time the lowest end of the deck 20 is raised, once horizontal, the whole deck is elevated as both guides 15, 16 move with further extension of the ram Catches are provided on the guide pillars 18 19 to support the deck.
