Abstract
1361031 Glass fibre reinforced tube F H DROSTHOLM 30 July 1971 [30 July 1970] 36034/71 Heading F2P [Also in Division B5] A glass fibre reinforced tube is moulded (see Divisions B4-B5) by drawing glass fibre rovings and/or mats or strips, e.g. in at least two layers, through a polyester or expoxy resin impregnating reservoir and then hardening the resin during passage through a heated shaping die D in which abrasion of a surface of the hardening resin within the die is avoided by applying a coating of further resin thereto, within the die D, to function as a lubricant, and which further resin is hardened downstream of the die outlet. The impregnating resin may comprise polyester, with the coating resin comprising polyester of higher solidification temperature, or lower solidification time and which may be of a different colour. The coating resin may be applied to the external and internal pipe surfaces, or, alternatively the coating may only be applied either to the interior or exterior of the pipe. The impregnating resin may comprise polyester catalysed with 1% benzoyl peroxide, providing for activation of the resin at 82 C. or higher, with the coating resin comprising 100 parts by weight of a bis-phenol-A-epoxy-acrylate, together with 1 part each of tertiary butyl perbenzoate and of fumed silica, activating at a temperature of 138 to 140 C.
