Abstract
1360919 Safety rotary plug valve closure POLYTOP CORP 27 April 1972 [3 May 1971 20 March 1972] 19638/72 Heading B8T A safety closure comprises a rotary plug valve 14 which is held in its closed position by the engagement of a groove 72 in its discharge end with a bead 48 that projects inwardly from a rotatable retaining ring 16 that must be turned until a gap (50), (Fig. 3, not shown) in bead 16 coincides with the groove 72 before the valve 14 can be turned about trunnions 58 to its open position in which its central passage 66 is aligned with an opening 68 in the closure body 12. Ring 16 is retained by beads 42, 48 and grooves 46, 44. Markings on the ring 16 and closure body or a snap acting detent may be provided to indicate when the gap (50) and groove 72 coincide. In Fig. 6 (not shown), the retaining ring has a skirt which extends downwardly to conceal the container neck.
