Abstract

1360533 Coaxial connectors OMNI SPECTRA Inc 18 April 1972 [16 July 1971] 17874/72 Heading H2E [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] A coaxial plug 502 and socket 503 are locked together by engagement of the ends of spring fingers 36 with the sloping sides 18, 28 of grooves 16, 27. The fingers 36 are carried by an axially sliding ring 504, which can be completely removed from the plug 502. When the plug 502 and socket 503 are to be uncoupled the ring 504 is pulled to the right, and the ends of the fingers 36 slide into the groove 16. As the ring 504 is moved further it brings the plug 502 with it. A cable 505 is attached to the plug by means of a sleeve 506. The socket 503 may be fixed to a panel 514 as shown, or may be attached to another cable. When the socket 503 is fixed the plug 502 can be connected and disconnected with one hand. The plug 502 comprises a pin 507, and the socket 503 a female contact 509, or vice versa. A ring 512 makes contact with the plug 502. A weather sealing gasket 513, which may be conductive, is provided. The ring 504 has finger grips 34. The locking arrangement can also be applied to mechanical and hydraulic couplings. The angles of the groove sides 18, 28 can be chosen to make unlocking easier or more difficult when the coupling is under tension (Figs. 3-6, not shown).
