Abstract
1360496 Fusible interlinings BONDINA Ltd 7 July 1972 [7 July 1971] 31914/71 Heading B2E A fusible interlining comprises a fabric carrying a discontinuous adhesive coating formed of areas of thermoplastic first material, each area of first material being located over a corresponding area of a barrier of higher melting or thermoset second material. Preferably, where the fabric 9 is woven or knitted. the fabric is printed through a rotating drum 1 with the second material 7 in the form of powder, solution, dispersion or paste, then with the first material 8 in powder form, the fabric 9 moving with the drum 1 and being kept in contact therewith by a continuous rubber band 2 wound on rollers 3, 4. Both materials are then gelled or cured. Preferably the areas of first material are in a regular pattern, as are those of the second material and the areas of second material may be the same as or larger than those of the first material. In another method, the second material is printed onto the fabric and dusted with a powder of the first material while the second material is still adhesive. In this case the second material is applied as a powder, solution, dispersion, paste or melt. In a further method, preferred for non-woven fabrics, a release sheet is first printed with the first material, then dusted with second material in particulate form while the first material is still adhesive. The coated release sheet is then hot pressed onto the fabric, and the release sheet is stripped off the coated fabric. The second, barrier material may be polypropylene, polyamide or a self-crosslinking acrylic resin, preferably applied as an aqueous dispersion, and the first layer may be polyethylene, polyester, p.v.c., or polyamide and is usualy applied as an aqueous dispersion. The fabric may be woven, or knitted, or non- woven bonded, for example with an acrylic resin.
